Flowers are one of my favorite subjects to draw, and for this project I chose lilies for their magnificent scale, elegant forms, and almost sculptural presence. Working from photo references, I explored how I could reimagine the flower in a way that felt distinctive and personal.
I wanted some areas of the flowers to feel highly detailed, such as in the stamens, while retaining the warmth and character of a hand-worked illustration in the petals and the leaves. For this reason, I built the artwork primarily with vector shapes in Affinity Designer, and used pixel-based brushes to introduce texture, subtle color variation, and organic imperfections.
After creating the illustration, I was curious to see how it might translate into the real world. I invite you to imagine the illustration applied to book publishing, commercial, lifestyle and luxury beauty products, and wine labels.
